The Colorist Orchestra & Howe Gelb
The music of Howe Gelb (Tucson, Arizona) is often described as Americana, but is impossible to pigeonhole into a single genre. You could equally describe it as a mixture of lo-fi, rock, folk, blues, noise and jazz. As well as a long list of albums with Giant Sand, he regularly released solo albums, and he has multiple side-projects. Gelb is a cult figure, a talented singer-songwriter with international credibility. He remains an unrivalled troubadour with a breathtaking voice and a charismatic personality. Someone worth discovering live time and time again.
Aarich Jespers and Kobe Proesmans from The Colorist Orchestra met Howe Gelb during the Liège-based jazz festival Mithra in 2017. With the encouragement of mutual musical friends, they started creating together. Having dug around in Gelb’s endless repertoire, The Colorist Orchestra reconstructs the songs in line with its constantly changing and unorthodox sound world. This imbues Gelb’s narrative power with fresh colour.
The coming together of The Colorist Orchestra and Howe Gelb is no coincidence. It is a collaboration to discover and cherish. A momentum on stage to look forward to.
