The English Concert olv. Rachel Podger

Do you too have marvellous memories of the previous visits by both the violinist Rachel Podger and The English Concert? Podger was for many years the leader of this baroque orchestra. Now she will be leading it once again in works from a repertoire that suits them both perfectly: the virtuoso orchestral music of Telemann and Bach.
Bach's orchestral suites are among the few orchestral works he wrote. They are immersed in the French suite style, with 'galanteries' that were much to the taste of the aristocracy of the time. Telemann's Concerto for 3 oboes, 3 violins, strings and basso continuo is typical of his playful variation technique. We jump from baroque to classical in the 'empfindsame' style of Bach's son Carl Philipp Emanuel and end this excellent programme with Bach's popular Double concerto for oboe and violin.
