'Los Impossibles' is an eighteenth-century manuscript by the Spanish Baroque guitarist Santiago de Murcia and shows influences from Italy, Spain and Portugal. The harpist Christina Pluhar became fascinated by this work, especially since its theme appears in Mexican traditional music, albeit in a different context. Pluhar brings her instrumental ensemble L'Arpeggiata together with the legendary King's Singers, flamenco singers Béatrice Mayo Felip and Patricio Hidalgo. The combination and confrontation of the classical character and the raw folk voices lend a peculiar uniqueness to this music. One of the main challenges was to try to come as close as possible to the pronunciation of old Spanish and Portuguese and render its popular character in an authentic way. Christina Pluhar achieves the impossible - she succeeds in bringing together seemingly opposing worlds. The CD recording of 'Los Impossibles' is definitely one of the bestselling Early Music CDs of the last year.
