Till Fellner
As the heir to Alfred Brendel, Till Fellner’s style is characterised by a razor-sharp analysis of the score, combined with vigorous and refined expression. In 2012 he took a sabbatical year to make an in-depth study of counterpoint and composition. So as to be able to penetrate the structure of the music with even more surgical precision.
Over the next few seasons, Fellner will devote his recitals exclusively to four great masters of counterpoint: Bach, Haydn, Mozart and Schumann. Bach because he provides the foundation of everything, and because without him the other composers’ work would have been inconceivable. Haydn and Mozart cast Bach’s counterpoint in a classical mould. Schumann reconciled mature polyphony with High-Romantic poetry. Fellner brings out the specific features of each work with crystal-clear architectonic insight and absolute control of the sound. With a strong sense of detail and timbre he is able to vary his musical material infinitely and to tell a compelling story. Till Fellner keeps you under his spell from the first note to the last.
