Tröndlin Trio - Anne Cambier
During this intimate concert, songs and chamber music will reveal a few other aspects of the many-facetted talent of Joseph Haydn. Although his piano trios are by no means inferior to his string quartets, they are not equally represented in the current repertoires. In fact, they were originally an indivisible part of the music, which accommodated the demands of the bourgeoisie in the second half of the 18th Century. In no. 39, we unmistakably hear the mentor of Beethoven, while no. 44 is one of the most unusual works by the composer. Both compositions stand at the pinnacle of piano trio music.
In between the purely instrumental pieces the soprano Anne Cambier will sing a number of canzonettas and Haydn's adaptations of British folksongs, accompanied by the piano trio. In these songs, Haydn combined his exceptional qualities as a composer of chamber music with his experience within the domain of opera. The subtle, melodic line with its elegant embellishments and short vocalisations owes a lot to aria. The accompanying trio adds an extra wealth of colour to the songs, rendering them symphonic in character.
