Tronthaim - Daniel Dorsch - Sascha Moser
Berlin, die Sinfonie der Grossstadt
The electronic music duo Tronthaim evokes Berlin in the middle of 'roaring' twenties, when it was the vibrant centre of the cultural avant-garde. All kinds of artists were experimenting with the new medium of film. Walter Ruttmann's 'Berlin, Die Sinfonie der Großstadt' is an absolute masterpiece from this period. Just like his contemporary, Fritz Lang ('Metropolis' etc.), Ruttmann was fascinated by the big city as a symbol of industry and progress. He would film in the streets of Berlin from morning till night. The result was a visual symphony. The film tackles social themes such as the contrast between rich and poor, but it is really about the rhythm of life in the metropolis.
