Currentzis' performances sometimes have the traits of a spiritual session. He also conducts the audience to the edge of their seats. De Volkskrant
The Greek conductor Teodor Currentzis and his impressive Utopia Orchestra have set DE SINGEL alight on many occasions. This time they dive into the magical world of Wagner’s magnum opus The Ring Cycle, but without words. The Ring Without Words condenses fifteen hours of opera music into an extensive symphony. The creator of this tour de force, the American conductor Lorin Maazel, did not add a single note. Where necessary, he replaced the singing voices with instrumental parts, fully preserving the essence of Wagner's masterpiece. Every note sounds out with a purpose, with a profound necessity. In the hands of Teodor Currentzis, this promises to be an unforgettable trip. A critic said of a performance conducted by Currentzis: ‘A daredevil ride into the abyss, with every rhythm and counter rhythm vehemently articulated, every accent and every cutting sforzando grimly sharp.' Hold on tight.
