Vox Luminis and Lionel Meunier have been enthusiastically received for years with their mature interpretations of Bach, Purcell and Schütz. Now they are joining forces with B’Rock, and together they are diving into the classical music of Mozart and Michael Haydn, who in his own time was held in at least as high esteem as his older brother Joseph Haydn. In Michael Haydn’s Requiem, which is as much a tribute to his daughter Aloisia who died in infancy as to the Salzburg archbishop, we clearly hear where Mozart got the ingredients for his own unfinished requiem mass. For the very first performance of this Requiem, none other than the young Mozart and his father were in the orchestra. Mozart’s ‘great’ Mass in C is the product of his early marital bliss with Constanze.
