1h 30' Refugees are of all ages and all countries. Their stories remain the same and their music also shows similarities. It is the music resemblances that are the finest. According to Wouter Vandenabeele, this is what ‘Exodus’ is about. In it he interweaves three styles: rebetiko, flamenco and music from Aleppo.
Rebetiko music was born after a Greek minority was expelled from Asia Minor to Greece and brought new instruments with them.
Gypsies have always made their mark on flamenco. Centuries ago this people from Rajasthan started out on a long diaspora. Many of them went to Eastern Europe, but also to Spain, where the Moorish domination still has a strong influence in culture and society.
Aleppo has always had a very diverse music culture that reflects the rich past and the unique character of the city.
