The public reacted with wild enthusiasm when the jury announced Yossif Ivanov's name in the final of the Queen Elizabeth competition for violin in 2005. Ivanov won both second prize and the public's prize, making him the most successful Belgian candidate to enter the Queen Elizabeth competition in the violin category. Ivanov, who was barely eighteen at the time, played with irrepressible energy and an unbelievable musical maturity. No challenge is too great for this violinist. His concert at deSingel will begin with the famous Chaconne from Bach's second partita - a fiendishly difficult work! Polyphonic arrangement and arpeggios alternate with passages played at breakneck speed.
In Beethoven's 'Frühlingssonate', Ivanov reveals his more lyrical side. The third violin sonata by Brahms is very demanding for both violinist and pianist. When Brahms played the sonata in concert with Joseph Joachim in 1893, rumour has it that its performance did not go according to plan. Fortunately for Ivanov however, he will have Itamar Golan at his side; one of the most well-seasoned chamber music pianists.
