1h 30' The Hebrew Bible contains an enigmatic book known as the ‘Song of Songs’. It reads like a series of love poems and is considered to be an allegory of God’s love. It has been inspiring Eastern and Western artists for centuries.
Zefiro Torna, together with Vocalconsort Berlin and the Tunisian singer Ghalia Benali, put together a unique programme: single-voice madrigals, sung duets and trios, and polyphonies from composers such as von Bingen, Lassus, Monteverdi and Buxtehude interact with traditional and modern Arabic songs and texts from Sufi poets such as Rabia al Adawiyya al Qaysiyya and a new generation of poets such as Abdallah Ghoneem. It makes ‘The Allegory of Longing’ into an inspiring dialogue between sacredness and humanity, and between cultures and history.
