With the musical theatre production Between Two Lights - directed by Aïda Gabriëls and Tido Visser - the Nederlands Kamerkoor and Muziektheater Transparant present a world premiere from one of today’s most interesting Chinese composers, Huang Ruo. Inspired by the age-old Tibetan book of the dead, Ruo takes us on a spiritual journey. The composition explores the moment when you trade in the life you cling to for something else. Without knowing what exactly that 'else' is. The moment when the light of the previous life goes out and the new light has not yet appeared.
Between Two Lights wants to make death tangible. Not with terrifying visions, but in a ritual in which we carefully expose ourselves to the thought of death. In order to get closer to reconciling with our own mortality.
