1h 5' The Book of Water is a musical theatre production for actor, string quartet and film, based on the novella Man in the Holocene by Max Frisch. In the adaptation of the book, the main character Geiser is faced with persistent rain and floods which are cutting him off from the outside world. The Book of Water places great emphasis on the dangerous weather conditions, a clear allusion to today’s climate crisis. In the production, Geiser’s environment crumbles as a result of the downpours that ravage the landscape, cause earthquakes and lead to widespread flooding, whilst his memory deteriorates more and more. In an overwhelming experience with new music by the Dutch composer Michel van der Aa, the characters react in video projections to the physically present actor and musicians of Amsterdam Sinfonietta, and vice versa. Thus an intriguing interaction is created between music, video and the life performance on stage.
