‘Who cares about the stature of man when we can go to the moon?’ philosopher Hannah Arendt asked herself. That is the starting point for Moonstruck. The theatre maker Ariel Efraim Ashbel and his troupe immerse themselves in the expansionism of the Western colonial powers. Long before Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos, Columbus and the Spanish conquistadores dreamt of conquering space. What appeal does the moon still hold for us earthly mortals? Inspired by the blockbuster Moonstruck (1987) and the essay In praise of shadows by the Japanese author Junichiro Tanizaki, Ashbel creates a mesmerising performance full of light, sound and movement.
