In Riddle my skin, Mustaf Ahmeti brings the figure of the satyr into the here and now. Between body and technology, nature and culture, fear and control, private and public, the satyr presents itself as an arab-futuristic cyborg.
In Greek mythology, the satyr was a nature spirit with a human body, but also with hooves, a tail and legs like those of a horse. They were playful creatures who played pranks on humans and challenged gods. But they were especially known for their fierce sexuality.
Ahmeti wants to explore in an unfiltered way topics that are often hard to address, such as religion in relation to queer identities. With the figure of the satyr, they seek new perspectives on taboos surrounding Islam and sexuality. A transdisciplinary work at the intersection of visual art and performance art.
Thematic trigger: images in this performance may be perceived as shocking.
Technical trigger: this performance contains loud music, deep bass, theatre smoke, scent, and strobe lights.
