Abke Haring - Toneelhuis
Hout
'Hout', a joint venture by Toneelhuis and deSingel, is a production by the author, actress and director Abke Haring and the first 'world creation' in our brand new Theatre Studio. Abke Haring studied acting at Studio Herman Teirlinck. In recent years she has been associated with Toneelhuis, where she appeared in the very moving double role of Iphigenia/Cassandra in Guy Cassiers' 'Atrope'.
In her own productions she seeks out the boundaries of communication. With a ruthless eye for rituals that have developed and for the fear of change. Abke Haring's plays are special leave-taking rituals, unusual death-watches, imperfect dialogues. Her language accuses, curses, rages, prays and ridicules. Clear, precise and raw. Her sentences are like congealed scabs on wounds that don't easily heal. Her favourite theme is the family, which she sees as an arena where members feign attacks and play power games. A place where the poverty of helplessness rules.
