How can we continue to coexist in times of crisis and extreme polarisation? Just before Christmas, fate brings three families together: a middle-aged man and his mother, a young family with a heavily pregnant mother, and a Sudanese woman who has just arrived in the country. They meet one another for the first time in the communal kitchen of a reception centre. There is no privacy. Everyone’s personal troubles are so overwhelming that there is barely room for solidarity. With Love, part of his trilogy The Inequalities, the British dramatist and director Alexander Zeldin garnered international renown. DE SINGEL is bringing him to Belgium for the first time. With great sensitivity and an eye for nuance, he zooms in on the downsides of austerity politics in Great Britain. Poignant realism with a contemporary twist.
