Together with d e t h e a t e r m a k e r, we present a new talent: Aurelie di Marino. Following her passionate plea at the 2018 Theatre Festival for challenging collaborations and for making history comprehensible, she now puts her words into action with ‘If there weren’t any blacks you’d have to invent them’, based on the eponymous 1968 film. Johnny Speight’s script is treated as a historical document and his vision of racism and identity is translated to the present day. The performers slowly uncover a key paradox: we recognise the unjust dominance of white, male power systems, yet at the same time we use them to consolidate our position. Everyone puts on his costume and plays his role, but is there still a warm heart beating inside that costume?
