Concerned about the political situation in Brazil, Jatahy sets to work with Dogville
The Brazilian theatre maker Christiane Jatahy will receive the Golden Lion for Theatre at La Biennale di Venezia in 2022. Jatahy presents her work at DE SINGEL for the first time. She creates a live dialogue between the theatre and the possibilities of the cinema. Concerned about the political developments in her native country, she interweaves material from Lars von Trier’s film 'Dogville' with a wider social narrative. When does hatred germinate? By freely adapting the script, constantly moving back and forth between scenic presence and filmic proximity, she give us, the audience, the opportunity to take a position. The actors who film and are filmed, the composition of the music, the montage: everything becomes visible, everything becomes fiction. Entre Chien et Loup tells the story of a Brazilian woman who has exiled herself. She determinedly tries to escape fascism, in search of her own path. But can we still change? Is there still time to stop? This is the fundamental question that Christiane Jatahy asks in this new creation.
