2h Working with language is the great passion of the French director Claude Régy. In his view, the secret of the theatre lies in the writing. Régy returns to deSingel with 'Comme un chant de David', a monologue based on the Psalms, performed by Valérie Dréville, whom Flemish theatregoers may remember from her title role in Luc Bondy's 'Phèdre'. The Psalms are largely the work of David, the lastborn son in a family of shepherds in Bethlehem and elected by God to unify the country. After a series of murderous conspiracies and bloody victories, David was crowned King of Israel at the age of thirty. He ruled for forty years and was succeeded by his son Solomon. After him, the kingdom collapsed and was overrun. In Jerusalem, the Holy City for Jews, Christians and Muslims, a war has been raging for two hundred years. All three religions sing the Psalms. Who answers David's invocations today?
