De Warme Winkel
Majakovski/Oktober
In this ‘oeuvre piece’, De Warme Winkel focuses on Vladimir Mayakovsky, Russia's most important literary futurist. His ideas on society and the way he expressed them were revolutionary. Following a life of political activism in support of the Bolsheviks, it was no coincidence that he committed suicide in 1930 when Stalin was on the rise. In his day personal politics and art were considered a political act. In 1917 the people rebelled to cast off the old yoke. Now, 100 years after the October Revolution, we see an increasing distrust of the ruling power and politics. Where are the new futuristic ideas? Where is Mayakovsky’s big heart? Where are the fists? 'Mayakovsky/October' is De Warme Winkel’s surprising elegy to revolution and resistance.
These performances were originally planned for 14 and 15 October. However, building work on the fly-tower in the Red Hall has been unexpectedly delayed and as a result we have had to postpone the performances until 13 and 14 March 2018. We apologise and hope you will forgive us for this inconvenience.
