Enrico Casagrande & Daniela Nicolò - Motus
Twin Rooms
'Twin Rooms', by the Italian multimedia company Motus, zooms in on the flipside of the American way of life: the seedy lives led by bored people in anonymous hotel rooms. On stage, kinky sex, violence and murder rule, while the video presents an untarnished image, as in a hotel brochure. The bloodstains have been washed away and the bullet holes filled. This is the America of the double moral standard. The directing duo of Enrico Casagrande and Daniela Nicolò borrowed fragments from American writers such as Don DeLillo and Bret Easton Ellis. The video images, on the other hand, evoke associations with the work of filmmakers Abbel Ferrarra and David Lynch, masters at suggesting the bleakness of the big American city. 'Twin Rooms' is an extremely fascinating and thrilling theatrical production that continually hovers on the borderline between reality and the imagination, ambiguity and the plain truth, soap and reality TV.
