Guy Cassiers . Het Toneelhuis . Triptiek van de macht
Atropa
In part three, 'Atropa', which will open in May 2008 in coproduction with deSingel, the victims of power have the last word. The performance is named after the Latin name for deadly nightshade (belladona). In the meantime the poison has had its devastating effect. Guy Cassiers and Tom Lanoye revert to Greek tragedy and are inspired by the Trojan war, the mother of all wars. It is no coincidence that those who condemn the violence of war are women. Even today they and their children are always the first victims. Throughout the play we hear echoes of the testimony of an Iraqi woman, who screams out on the 'Baghdad Burning' blog how her country has suffered as a result of the war. This is an impressive apotheosis of a penetrating three-part theatrical epic about power, art and politics.
