Guy Cassiers worked for two years on his stage version of Marcel Proust's monumental novel 'A la recherche du temps perdu' ('In Search of Lost Time'). The result is a series of four plays that impressively interweaves the two threads running through Cassiers' work: literature and a multimedia theatre idiom. Proust's world is transposed to the contemporary theatre space, in which, although the language remains intact, it has a new relationship with the visual and auditive space. deSingel is presenting all four parts of this imposing series of plays, the titles of whose parts refer to the main characters, as in the book itself. In 'Proust 4: Marcel's Way', the main theme is art. Marcel has withdrawn from the turbulent life of society and has accepted his role as a writer. His housekeeper and sounding-board Céleste Albaret broadens not only Marcel's horizons, but ours too. Time is at last regained.
