‘Rage, masculinity and healing clash in V O L U M E - MMA meets theater.’
This presentation grew out of on_off_space, DE SINGEL’s residency programme giving young makers space to experiment.
Two men fight on stage. Their movements swift, their bodies fit. They seek to transform their angers and rage into something meaningful, in fear that it will devour them. They become entangled and lose themselves in flying limbs, each other's reflections, projections and their need for space. When their breath falls short, words take over...
"I have an idea! First you speak. There there is a silence. And after the silence, I speak!"
In the theatre performance V O L U M E Hernán and Rino place the so-called healing space of the modern man, over the space of the MMA-ring and together onto the theatre floor. They play with the assumptions and imaginations of what it means to embark on a journey of healing. They invite the audience members to read and search these bodies, for (in)appropriate ways to deal with the phenomenon of the manosphere, which is asserting itself upon our society.
(The performance will be presented in its raw and stripped-down form, with only minimal technical setup)
