Mijn lieve gunsteling
‘Dit stuk en zijn fenomenale acteurs laten je gekortwiekt achter.’ De Standaard
'Een abjecte liefdestango tussen twee beschadigde mensen.' Telegraaf
Marieke Lucas Rijneveld is chalking up literary prize after literary prize. The poet and novelist won the International Booker Prize, among others, for The Discomfort of Evening (2018). Mijn lieve gunsteling [‘My Heavenly Favourite’] (2020) was awarded de Boon Literature Prize by professional jury and public alike. His last, heartrending, oppressive novel tells the story of a 49-year-old vet who during a sultry summer develops a forbidden love for a 14-year-old farmer’s daughter. Adoration rapidly turns into obsession, until finally the boundary is irrevocably crossed.
Mijn lieve gunsteling is a shattering story in lyrical, meandering prose that leaves no one unmoved. Ivo van Hove, who has often tackled impossible loves on stage, was the first theatre director allowed to tackle this bestseller. An absolutely stellar cast, led by the fabulous actor Hans Kesting (who also read the audio book) and up-and-coming talent Eefje Paddenburg, once again guarantee an unforgettable theatre experience.
