1h 10' In February there will be two plays on the programme by the Norwegian writer Jon Fosse. Ivo van Hove will set the ball rolling. Fosse's first play, 'And We'll Never Be Parted', written in 1999, immediately put him on the map as a playwright.
Director Ivo van Hove and his dramaturge Peter Van Kraaij consciously opted for an ambiguous translation of the title. In content, Jon Fosse's dramaturgy has a strong religious undertone and in terms of form it is often described as postmodern. Fosse's place of birth, a small Norwegian seaside village, is the setting for his minimalist dramas. Fjord, house, man, woman are the four constants in his theatrical oeuvre, where a magical world of ritual activities unfolds. Times merge, the distinction between memory and dream is blurred. Which is also the case in 'Nooit van Elkaar'. A woman waits for her husband to return. She imagines him together with a younger woman. Is this real or is it a nightmare? Are we seeing scenes from the early days of their romance or is this adultery? Ivo van Hove sketches a mental portrait of a lonely woman who tries to give shape to her deepest desires. Never each other's, never apart.
