Ivo van Hove . Toneelgroep Amsterdam
Zomertrilogie
Prepare yourselves for more than three hours of first-rate commedia dell'arte. For the third year in succession Toneelgroep Amsterdam will be presenting a marathon performance in the familiar hands of the director Ivo van Hove.
'Summer Trilogy' dates back to 1761 and contains the three holiday plays by the Italian comedy writer Carlo Goldini. Two North Italian aristocratic families take us along on their holiday to the countryside. Here they see their cherished lifestyle quickly get bogged down in pure bad luck. Goldoni uses these hilarious situations to express his criticism of the society of his day, in a manner that is both subtle and effective. The translation, by Gerardjan Rijnders, results in a razor-sharp script, with a sly wink at the present day. Allow yourself to be carried along by a great ensemble in this satirical work about love in a time of crisis.
