2h What is the significance of theatre in today's world? This is one of the many questions that interest Jan Lauwers. Once again he explores the boundaries of theatre in his latest production entitled 'The Deer House'. This work, which is about a group of theatre-makers, is partly based on his own experience. While on tour abroad a member of the company received news that her brother, a war correspondent, had been shot and killed in Kosovo. Jan Lauwers uses this tragic event as a starting point for a new story about life and death. But also about the pointlessness and mysterious necessity of art. 'The Deer House' is the third and last part of Lauwers' trilogy, 'Sad Face/Happy Face', of which the first two parts, 'Isabella's Room' and 'The Lobster Shop', have already been staged in deSingel. Once again it promises to be a large-scale, multidisciplinary performance which reflects real life: with time for emotion and sympathy and for liberating laughter!
