Krzysztof Warlikowski . Rozmaitosci Teatr - GEANNULEERD
Krum (Hanoch Levin)
Would you like to discover a disconcerting play by an Israeli playwright who has not yet made a name for himself here? Moreover, do you enjoy powerful acting? If the answer is yes, allow yourself to be swept along by 'Krum', a production staged by Krzysztof Warlikowski from Poland. This rising star in the international firmament is the dynamic director of the leading Rozmaitosci Teatr in Warsaw. The twelve actors are all top performers in today's Polish theatre. Observe the ease and passion with which they deal with the script and the space. The main character, Krum, has a dream. He goes abroad but his journey is fruitless and he returns. In the world around him everyone is also desperately seeking happiness but only find ersatz. His tense relationship with his mother plays a key role. When she dies, Krum takes a retrospective look at his life and draws up a balance. Hanoch Levin's script cuts like a knife. The writer died in 1999 at the age of sixty-five and was the figurehead of the socially critical theatre of the young nation of Israel. He wrote 'Krum' in 1975 immediately after he made a name for himself with a series of satirical, antimilitary cabaret productions. 'Krum' unrelentingly describes everyday life in the microcosm of a working-class area. We encounter irrevocable aspects of the human condition.
