For this 'Macbeth', the Bourlaschouwburg is stripped and transformed. Gerardjan Rijnders, one of the most pre-eminent theatre authors in the Dutch language, was asked to re-narrate Shakespeare's text in a contemporary manner. On their return from the battlefield, the Scottish army captains Macbeth and Banco run into three witches who predict their future - Macbeth shall be King. This prediction conjures up an orgy of bloody fantasies in Macbeth's mind, a delirium of lust for power. He commits one murder after the other, assisted by the fatal intrigues of his ambitious wife, Lady Macbeth. Luk Perceval sets 'Macbeth' in the twilight of mythical stories and paranoid reality in which Macbeth and Banco are interchangeable.
