Mariano Pensotti

The Argentinian director and writer Mariano Pensotti often draws from people’s life stories in which history and memory play a leading role. ‘Arde brillante en los bosques de la noche’ (‘Fierce fire in the night-time forest’) is inspired by the Russian Revolution and the ideas of the revolutionary politician and feminist Alexandra Kollontai. The piece tells the story of three contemporary women who are in some way marked by the Russian Revolution. He kneads this material into an interplay of theatre, film and puppetry. In every act, each story is given a different form and the performance unfolds like a Russian doll: fictions within fictions open up and influence one another.
