Banushi's poetic theatre ritual unravels a family history full of loss and grief.
With his debut RAGADA, the Greece-based director and performer Mario Banushi immediately puts himself on the map as a rising star of European theatre. His work is inspired by the traditions and rituals of his native Albania. Taverna Miresia - Mario, Bella, Anastasia is a personal and poetic performance about loss and grief.
The neon sign of a restaurant in a suburb of Tirana sheds light on a family history. An unexpected incident beneath the light of this sign changes Mario's life. Years later, director Mario Banushi, now an adult, affords the sign a central place in the world that he creates on stage. In a visual theatre performance filled with memories and nostalgia, he confronts the absence of his late father, the cook and owner of the tavern who welcomed guests there every night. In the light of the sign, a succession of emotions unfolds, a melody of unspoken feelings, fragments and memories. Taverna Miresia - Mario, Bella, Anastasia is a profound farewell to the father, and an embrace of adulthood and the existential questions that go with it.
