The Swiss director Milo Rau, who has been artistic director of NTGEnt since 2018, is a guest at DE SINGEL for the first time. His socially critical performances do not shy away from controversy. Among others, Lam Gods, his first creation in Ghent, caused considerable uproar. As well as being a director, Milo Rau is also a multi-award-winning film-maker and writer. In his documentary theatre, he mixes reality and fiction, professional actors and amateurs. The autobiography of the performers is often interwoven with a broader social narrative. In Grief & Beauty, Milo Rau and his team examine the theme that has been central to Rau's work for years. Bidding farewell, grief and death. How do we say goodbye? What is left at the end of a life? Alongside two actors from NTGent, the young actors Arne De Tremerie and Johan Leysen, there are four professional and non-professional performers on stage who in one way or another have come into contact with death. A performance about beauty and grief in the light of recent events.
