For the New York-based performance group Nature Theater of Oklahoma – led by Pavol Liska and Kelly Copper – each project is inspired by wonder and a desire for knowledge. What do we not yet know? What can we learn? The director couple poses questions to the others, uses material found all around them, listens to speeches on the radio and observes human behaviour. Armed with this material, they give an unusual twist to the perception of everyday reality. The ten-part work ‘Life and Times’, based on a telephone call from a thirty-four-year-old woman who talks about the story of her life for a total of sixteen hours, has reached episodes 4.5 & 5. ‘Episode 4.5’ is an animated film that begins with the end of high school, and the quest for love – starting with the older boys in the science class and ending with the attachment to the cat home. The saga continues in ‘Episode 5’ with the first sexual experience, told through a very beautifully illustrated manuscript based on a medieval model. Performed with live keyboard music, specially composed.
