Olympique Dramatique . Toneelhuis
Adams Appels
Toneelhuis is entering its third season under the artistic direction of Guy Cassiers. Our two organisations collaborate frequently and in all sorts of ways, but each on the basis of our own specific mission. On the one hand by offering a shared season ticket. On the other by creating a place within the programme for productions made under the umbrella of Toneelhuis or at least whose artistic roots lie there. The beginning and end of the deSingel season is marked by two large-scale projects, both directed by Guy Cassiers. Following a salutary Theatre Festival we shall begin with a series of première performances of the 'Power Triptych'. In June we will present a real opera whose music is composed by Kris Defoort. 'Sutra', the Chinese-tinged choreographic work by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, a member of the Toneelhuis artists collective, will also be presented on our large stage.
Apart from this we have the shared season ticket, for which each theatre selects three productions from the other's programme. Our selection from the Toneelhuis programme is as follows: Peter Missotten and his co-director Peter Vandemeulebroecke will stage an excellent play, 'De wilde wilde weg' by the American scriptwriter and author, Steve Tesich. A new step in the Filmfabriek's search for the horror - which at times is also hilarious - of the end of our civilisation. 'Maria-Magdalena' by Wayn Traub is the sequel to 'Maria-Dolores' and 'Jean-Baptiste'. In this triptych Traub uses theatre, music and film to give shape to a highly personal mythology. On stage we see a top-class Chinese dancer as the muse Maria-Magdalena and Wayn Traub himself as a new character, Iokanan. Finally, Olympique Dramatique will create 'Adams appels', a playful musical set to original music by Dominique Pauwels. The text is inspired by the film script of the same name by the Danish film-maker Thomas Jensen.
