Rebekka de Wit - De Tijd
Ik weet er te weinig van
Rebekka de Wit graduated with distinction from Antwerp Conservatoire's Spoken Arts department. For her solo project 'I know too little about it' she has been researching the intellectual climate of big cities over the last few centuries. She travelled to Berlin, Paris, Vienna and New York in search of the seminal moments in intellectual history. Taking each city in context, she always went right to the heart of things, visiting the cafés, houses or salons where the great thinkers would have gathered. "My grandmother was not too impressed by my project", explains de Wit. "She pointed out to me that the fin de siècle era in Vienna no longer exists." "For god's sake, at least do something that's of some relevance today", was her advice.
But these cities and their history did provide inspiration. In them, the young de Wit found arguments and characters for a story about the city she lives in today. She takes a critical look at the paradox of the modern age, where despite our being technologically linked to one another like never before, loneliness is on the increase. Rebekka de Wit invites you to look at and listen to her findings. The curiosity, imagination and storytelling ability of this tenacious young talent make this monologue something to look forward to.
