René Pollesch . Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz

An attack on capitalism inspired by a work by Bertolt Brecht is something the revolutionary Rosa Luxembourg would have enjoyed. But the politically-engaged theatre by the writer and director René Pollesch is anything but a dry ideological discourse. He studied theatre arts and has assisted Heiner Müller, George Tabori, John Jesurun and others. In 2002 the authoritative magazine Theater Heute voted him best German dramatist. In the meantime he has written dozens and dozens of plays which he directs in almost all major German theatres. For 'Kill your Darlings! Streets of Berladelphia' he was inspired by 'Fatzer Fragments', in which Brecht contrasts solidarity with individualism. Once again Pollesch wrote this monologue for Fabian Hinrichs, his tireless fetish actor. In 'Kill your Darlings! Streets of Berladelphia' he directs his reflections on love and friendship, often in the form of questions, alternately to the audience and to a silent 'chorus' of gymnasts on stage.
