1h With his ensemble El Sportivo Teatral, Richard Bartis is the pivotal figure of a very active and intellectual artistic avant-garde scene in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires. In his most recent theatre production 'Donde más duele', or 'Where it hurts most', he delves into the myth of Don Juan. How could anyone - in a time when we are renouncing the 'big story'- dare to tell the mystical tale of the irresistible heartbreaker who loves hundreds of women? Is sexuality really per se a battlefield? For Ricardo Bartis the story is situated in the heart of the irrational, the basic instinct. 'Donde más duele' tells a seemingly simple story: three sisters and an sick old man sit locked up in an old house and keep repeating the same scenes in the belief that their repetitions contain a deeper meaning. Desperately they try to stake out their own terrain. As always with Bartis, the story is just an opportunity to give other powers a chance. His extremely intricate theatre develops poetry of words and images, often rising from the subconscious, which forever will cast their spell on us.
