Theatre-maker Rodrigo García (1964) was born in Buenos Aires and moved to Madrid at the end of the eighties. Since 1989, he has, together with his company La Carnicería (The Abbatoir), developed his own special visual idiom. 'Versus' was created for the celebration of the bicentenary of the Spanish constitution. In this politically inspired work the form is raw and radical and the discourse intelligent and passionate. 'Versus' is about fighting, in a wide variety of forms. Initially Rodrigo Garcia has the audience listen unsuspectingly to a highly amusing dialogue about pizza and football, but it soon becomes clear he wants to talk about the less attractive aspects of human existence. The maker has clear opinions and he doesn't beat about the bush. He lays his finger on the problem of social injustice by drawing from our everyday reality and using video images and projected texts, dance and live music. This is a wake-up call that keeps you alert and gives you hope as García attempts to find a modus vivendi for survival in this day and age. And you are his chosen discussion partner.
