Romeo Castellucci . Socìetas Raffaello Sanzio
Hey Girl! - Belgische première
This is the sort of theatre you only get from Castellucci! One can compare the work of this Italian director with a baroque 'Wunderkammer', where the visitor can see all sorts of rarities. Or with a dream, full of fantastic or contradictory events, where there are different laws of time, space and language. In 1981 Romeo Castellucci, Chiara Guidi and Claudia Castellucci founded the Socìetas Raffaello Sanzio company. The name is derived from the Italian Renaissance painter Raphael. 'Because in the perfection of his compositions the figures are submerged in metaphysics.' For each creation they collect images, absorb colours and experiment with voices and sounds. In the 'Tragedia Endogonidia', an impressive cycle of eleven performances of which parts three and six will be staged in deSingel, Castellucci concentrates on tragedy. It is an impressive opus bursting with references, whose essential element is metamorphosis. In this new production, co-produced by deSingel, Castellucci abandons metaphor and attempts to find a zero point. Pure movement. He has no desire to commemorate, transform or give meaning to anything. He wishes to address the individual spectator rather than a collective audience. Castellucci invites the spectator to observe without reverting to associations or memories. It is a challenge.
