duration
1h 20' This season the director Stefan Kaegi will be appearing in deSingel for the second time. In his generally playful performances the actors are not professional performers but people who because of their profession, hobby or identity have a special story to tell. He himself describes his work as documentary theatre.
In 'Radio Muezzin' it is now the turn of the muezzins, the Islamic officials of the mosque who call the faithful to prayer from the minaret. All five protagonists come from Cairo. Above the rooftops of this city of a thousand mosques - in fact there are about thirty thousand of them (!) - their song combines to form a colourful carpet of sound. Abdelmoty Hindawy, Hussein Gouda, Mansour Namous, Mohamed Ali and Sayed Hammad talk about their lives. One of them is a blind teacher of the Koran, the other is an electrician while another is a bodybuilder and vice Koran reading champion. Stefan Kaegi presents their world in a way that is so spontaneous and real that you soon believe you are in the very heart of the Egyptian capital. An unforgettable experience!
