Theateroktober
Een expo met werk van de Russische avant-garde 1917-1931
This exhibition provides an outline of the avant-garde active in Russian theatre from 1917 to 1931. Famous directors at the time included Meyerhold and Tairov. They made revolutionary theatre. Their aim was to link the theatre with the revolution as well as to thoroughly reform the theatre. Its elements were constructivist set design and a style of acting based on biomechanics. 'Theateroktober' presents us with a selection from the unique collection of scores of models and photographs of set designs from this era, collected by the drama department of Cologne University, headed by Professor Elmar Buck. The exhibition is accompanied by a richly illustrated catalogue. The Theatre Festival has a Dutch translation on offer with introductory articles by Luk Van den Dries and Thomas Crombez.
During the Theatre Festival, the exhibition will be open from 5 pm until the end of the performances. After the Theatre Festival the exhibition will remain in deSingel unt
