Fifteenth century. In the kingdom of England, the War of the Roses puts the houses of York and Lancaster on opposing sides. The deformed, loveless Richard is of the house of York, and determined to be king. He sees his chance to seize power after getting rid of all the potential competitors inside and outside his family. Actor and director Jolly asks himself: was Richard born a monster or was he the product of the monstrous nature of his times? Jolly excels in Shakespeare's razor-sharp dialogues, such as those between Richard and the strong women who surround him. They find him repulsive. But at the same time, deceived by his cunning and blinded by the prospect of power, they cannot resist him. A fantastic four-hour performance!
