Following the overwhelming and heart-warming mass spectacle Familiestraat, Thomas Verstraeten is making a new creation for Dear Antwerp. Seefhoek Series is an ode to the vibrant neighbourhood in the north of Antwerp where he himself also lives. The performance will be a six-part, on-location project, spread over ten days in late summer 2023, followed by an exhibition in autumn 2024. Verstraeten always puts a different facet of his neighbourhood under the microscope, in order to then remove it from its context, turn it around, dismantle it, blow it up, isolate it, and finally reintroduce it into the same urban context. Seefhoek Series is like an estafette that ends on the Bourla Theatre stage, where a preacher from Astrid Square preaches salvation.
