Tiago Rodrigues
Catarina et la beauté de tuer des fascistes
Tiago Rodrigues, brand-new director of Festival d’Avignon, makes his DE SINGEL debut!
Tiago Rodrigues is an actor, director, playwright and the brand-new director of the prestigious Festival d’Avignon. Now he is coming to DE SINGEL for the first time. With Catarina et la beauté de tuer des fascistes he presents the tale of a Portuguese family with a remarkable tradition: killing fascists. All members of the family gather in a country house in the south near Baleizão. This place is symbolic, because it is in that village that the murder took place of Catarina Eufémia, an iconic resistance figure in the battle against the corporatist and fascist dictatorial regime of the Estado Novo, who were in power in Portugal from 1933 to 1974.
One of the youngest members of the family, not coincidentally also named Catarina, is due to take up her role of fascist slayer for the first time. When she refuses, the high day turns into an explosive family quarrel. All questions are asked afresh. What is a fascist? Where does the boundary between ‘legal’ and ‘legitimate’ lie? And how far can you go in the defence of democracy?

Technical trigger: this performance contains scenes of loud bangs. Earplugs will be distributed.
