Angels in America, het leven naakt
'Angels in America' by Tony Kushner is suffused with the atmosphere of the eighties. This monumental drama about Aids is set against the political background of the Reagan period. The disease is kept under wraps for a long time. The play focuses on the lives of several New Yorkers who are suddenly confronted with aids. Their fears result in the strangest hallucinations. 'Angels in America' takes you to a dream world in which ghosts of the past appear, but which is also inhabited by angels. The performance is directed by Ivo van Hove with a very strong cast of actors and contains humiliating scenes about power and hypocrisy and moving dialogues about the fear of death and decay. Above all, it is a plea for the comfort of love. It is also possible to attend the two parts of this breathtaking epic in a marathon performance, good for more than six hours of compelling theatre.
