Valentijn Dhaenens - Skagen
De kleine oorlog
Valentijn Dhaenens is a stage and film actor. After graduating from the drama department of Antwerp Conservatoire, he was a founding member of the theatre company SKaGeN. In 2009 he made an unforgettable impression with his monologue 'DegrotemonD', which was selected for the Theatre Festival. Using speeches made by world leaders, he demonstrated the rhetorical strength of language with great virtuosity and total control. Not without demagogy, they incited rebellion or war, praised the dead and declared them heroes, and shared in their families' grief. But who were these powerful men really addressing? In his new theatre project, Valentijn Dhaenens will be focusing on the common man. In 'DeKleineOorlog', he will be zooming in on a field hospital during the First World War. In it, he allows doctors, nurses, wounded soldiers and mothers to speak. Once again, he plays all the characters himself. For this monologue, nurse and wounded soldier, mother and son are mercillessly made one. In 'DeKleineOorlog', Dhaenens wants to tell a universal story. A story about humans and their incontrovertible craving for battle.
