55' Concert for Greenland, or how a production in which barely a word is spoken can nevertheless result in a gripping theatre experience. Visually speaking, this performance - which is a cross between shadow theatre, video performance and visual art - goes straight to the heart. In a bizarre way you become fascinated with this audiovisual composition in which rusty mechanisms are combined with new technology. You see performers lying on and under the wooden floor, frequently manipulating tiny, fragile objects. You see images of broad and desolate landscapes and of the all-embracing sea. And you are swept along by a continuous, poetic soundscape. The makers of Concert for Greenland are members of an artists' collective from Oslo. In 2003 they went on an expedition to far and remote Greenland. They lived for some time with the local population, the Inuit. The impressions of their journey formed the basis for Concert for Greenland, in which they pay tribute to this godforsaken, unknown and unspoiled North Atlantic island. What remains is the combination of technical ingenuity and poetic elusiveness. Half the company consists of sound engineers who eat at the technological table. Complicated techniques are put into the service of simplicity and emotion.
