1h 15' The Lebanese Walid Raad is one of the Middle East’s most prominent artists. His work has been exhibited at the Louvre, MoMA and the Venice Biennale, amongst others. It is directly linked to the wars in Lebanon. In a way that is both playful and confrontational, he shows how conflicts not only leave their marks on body and soul, but also on artistic processes.
In his lecture performances, he interweaves art, economics and politics in a masterful narrative. ‘Preface to the Seventh Edition’ is an artist talk about two long-running art projects: ‘The Atlas Group’ (his world-famous – but fictitious – artists’ collective that captured the complex Lebanese history in images), and ‘Scratching on things I could disavow’, in which he questions the current contemporary art boom in the Middle East and the Arab world.
